Upamecano joins Bayern Munich on a five-year contract
Dayot Upamecano has signed a contract with the Bavarians.
, who has made brilliant appearances for
RB Leipzigin the last two seasons, attracted the attention of various clubs including
Manchester United, but in the end it was
Bayern Munichwho were able to reach an agreement with the French international.
Bayern, who have struggled defensively this season and conceded more goals than last season, finalized the transfer of Upamecano to avoid going into competition with other clubs in the coming summer.
A few days ago, Bayern's sporting director
Hasan Salihamidzic
announced the agreement with the player, and a few minutes ago, the transfer became official with a statement from the club.
The statement reads:
"Dayot Upamecano (22, RB Leipzig) will play for FC Bayern Munich from July 1, 2021.
The defensive player and the record German champions agreed on a five-year collaboration until June 30, 2026."
Bayern has recruited Upamecano, paying his €42 million release clause. The player will join the club next season.
The French star will stay with Leipzig until the end of the season and is currently preparing to play against
Liverpoolin the round of 16 of the Champions League.
