“Upamecano’s in demand across Europe, Bayern are also in talks” - Kahn

Bayern Munich’s future president has admitted that they are eyeing the France international but has put an end to speculations about them going after another big name.

According to director

Oliver Kahn

, it would be negligent of

Bayern Munich

 not to eye

Dayot Upamecano

. The Bavarian have expressed their eagerness in signing with the 22-year-old and

RB Leipzig

stated that his release clause is €42.5 million (£38m/$52m).

Kahn, Bayern’s soon-to-be president, has strengthened his commitment to acquire the Frenchman’s services as they need to reinforce the centre-back area.

We’re losing David Alaba,

” Kahn admitted.

We made him an offer a while ago. He didn’t accept this offer.

“I also understand that a player like him, who’s been at Bayern Munich for a long time, is looking for a new challenge now.

“We have to think about who could be an adequate replacement for David.

“As a player, I’d love to have played with Ramos, but there’s nothing in [him coming to Bayern].”

Kahn also commented about Upamecano specifically, saying: “

He’s in demand across Europe.

“This season, he’s shown the quality that he has. Of course, we’re also in talks.

“He’s a player that lots of Europe’s biggest clubs want and Bayern are currently the most successful club in the world in sporting terms.

“We’re especially attractive for these types of players at the moment.”

Bayern’s defence can undergo a dramatic change in the summer, as Jerome Boateng’s future is also unsettled.

Bayern Munich are sitting top of the

Bundesliga

table, seven points clear of the second-place RB Leipzig. They have come out winners in their last four games and met the target 57 times in 19 games.

They are set to face

Hertha

on Friday, and will then go to compete for the FIFA Club World Cup in Doha.
