Joelinton to face punishment over COVID-19 breach

Newcastle striker Joelinton faces punishment from the Premier League club after a social media post appeared to show the Brazilian breaching coronavirus lockdown rules.

The 24-year-old striker posted a picture of himself in a barbershop while getting a haircut, despite barbershops not being allowed to open under current lockdown rules.

quickly deleted the tweet, but a club spokesman said:

“We are disappointed by the image shared by Joelinton.

“There are clear Covid-19 protocols in place and the club continues to guide and educate its players on their responsibilities. The club will be taking appropriate action internally.”

Newcastle

suffered a coronavirus outbreak in December and were forced to shut their training ground due to a number of players and club staff testing positive for coronavirus.

Jamaal Lascelles

Isaac Hayden

, and

Federico Fernandez

were among the players who tested positive and were sidelined.
