Scott Hogan scores for Birmingham to block the Boro's top-six push

Birmingham’s victory in their Satuday match prevents Middlesbrough from climbing into the play-off zone.

Scott Hogan

’s goal in the 26th minute of his team’s Saturday match against

Middlesbrough

was enough for the City to collect all three points from this crucial match.

Maxime Colin

’s low cross into the Boro’s six-yard box put Hogan in a perfect situation to open the scoring for

Birmingham

. Despite Middlesbrough’s chances in the second half of the match, Aitor Karanka introduced an extra defender to his team’s backline and managed to keep the result.

This was Hogan’s fourth goal of the season as the Boro suffered their second home defeat in their 2020-21 campaign. Birmingham’s victory will make other teams in the upper half of the table happy as it made it harder for Middlesbrough to reach the play-off zone in the Skybet Championship table. The victory also ended Birmingham’s run of six matches without a win and placed them in 18th place of the table where they should keep trying to escape the relegation zone.
