Alonso pleased to have scored Chelsea’s winner against Man City
The Spain international was ‘very emotional’ after meeting the winning target for the Blues against Man City.
Marcos Alonso
was pleased to have netted
Chelsea’s winner in the battle against
Manchester Cityafter struggling at Etihad Stadium this season.
The City could not wrap up the
Premier Leaguetitle following their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea. Raheem Sterling scored the opener only for Hakim Ziyech to cancel it out before Alonso secured the three points for his side by finding the back of the net.
"
I’m very happy, especially because it’s been a tough season,"
the Spanish full-back told Chelsea's
official website.
"I do my best every time I play to put pressure on the manager and try to play more. That’s what I want and I think every time I play I’ve done well so that’s what I need to keep doing.
"With the goal, it was very emotional and I’m very happy for that."
After
Ben Chilwell
joined the Blues last summer with a £50 million ($70m) transfer fee, Frank Lampard exiled Alonso from his plans.
Under the reign of Thomas Tuchel, however, the 30-year-old’s future has taken a turn as he is competing with Chilwell for game time.
The Spaniard has played in 16 games for his side and scored two goals.
Notwithstanding Alonso’s crucial role in Chelsea’s struggle to finish in the top four and triumph in FA Cup and Champions League, his future is not yet decided.
Alonso’s contract expires in 2023, but
Goal
reported that the club might be interested in cashing in on him to be able to sign new players.
