Rise and Fall: Nasser Al-Khelaifi with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League

Between hope and disappointment: The club president’s challenges and aspirations after the defeat against Borussia Dortmund and the team’s future with Luis Enrique

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, expressed feelings of frustration and sadness after the unfortunate exit from the UEFA Champions League semi-finals against Borussia Dortmund.

In his statements through Canal Plus, Al-Khelaifi expressed his deep sadness, saying: “We feel a great disappointment and deep sadness for what happened, but this is part of the nature of football, it is sometimes not fair.”

He added, saying: “We were incredibly unlucky, as the ball hit the post and the crossbar four times in one match, in addition to twice in the first leg. The ball refused to enter the goal, and we have to congratulate the Dortmund team who deservedly won in both matches.”

When asked about the reason for the defeat, the Parisian club president answered frankly: “Luck, luck. I have never seen anything like this before in football.”

He continued: “But despite that, we are proud of what we have presented, we have built something important for the future. We had the youngest team in the Champions League semi-finals, and the future looks bright for us.”

Al-Khelaifi continued: “We deserved the best, and our goal was to qualify for the final and perhaps more than that, and we must continue to work after we qualified for the semi-finals three times in the last five years.”

When asked if Luis Enrique would remain the team’s coach after exiting the tournament, Al-Khelaifi angrily replied: “What is this question? Do you understand football?”.
