Newcastle United 2-0 Manchester United: Magpies Move Above Man United

A month after losing EFL Cup final to the Red Devils, Newcastle United hosted Man United in a Premier League clash. Thanks to second-half goals from Willock and Wilson, the Magpies moved above United into the third place in the Premier League.

Newcastle United hosted Manchester United in Premier League in a condition that the Red Devils won the EFL Cup with a 2-0 victory over the Magpies last month. Hence, Eddie Howe's side was seeking revenge in their Premier League clash.

The Magpies started the game on the front foot as they had plenty of chances in the first half. David De Gea made a superb double save in the 16th minute against Isak and Willock. Newcastle kept on the pressure on Man United's goal as Willock missed a golden opportunity in the 40th minute just two minutes after Longstaff's eye-catching shot. However, Man United held on to a goalless draw in the first half.

The game proceeded the same in the second half as Joseph Willock finally scored the game's opener in the 65th minute nodding in Saint-Maximin's pass. The Red Devils failed to fight back as Callum Wilson doubled Newcastle United's lead in the 88th minute heading in Trippier's cross from a free-kick.

The win at St James' Park would leapfrog the Magpies above the Red Devils and into third.
