Real Madrid advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals with ease as they comfortably defeated
Liverpool1-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Liverpool failing to mount the required three-goal comeback.
In the first leg of their last-16 tie, Madrid had already secured an impressive 5-2 victory over Liverpool in England, leaving the Reds with a difficult task for the return match on Wednesday.
Despite a strong defensive effort from Liverpool, they were not able to mount a significant offensive threat against
Madridin the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie. While the Liverpool defense, and goalkeeper Alisson in particular, provided a solid foundation, they were not able to replicate the goal-scoring threat they had shown in the first leg.
Karim Benzema scored the only goal of the game, ending Liverpool's hopes of a comeback and securing a spot for Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
It was a familiar result for Benzema, who has scored against Liverpool in all four of his appearances against them, managing seven goals against the Merseyside team.
