Premier League’s VAR boss Neil Swarbrick will leave his position at the end of the season

EPL VAR boss will resign from his position, amidst recent VAR controversy, come the end of the season.

VAR has been under scrutiny in recent months in the Premier League. The situation got even worse when a clear error in the Arsenal and Brighton game led to both teams dropping points, points that could be crucial to the title race even.

PGMOL, who are the officiating body of English football, held a crisis meeting. Both Swarbrick and Lee Mason, who were in charge of VAR in the Arsenal game, were stripped of VAR duties in the next week. Mason soon announced his exit from the organization after that on February 17.

Now the Athletic has reported that Swarbrick will also leave his position at the end of the current campaign. Although, it’s believed that Swarbrick’s decision has nothing to do with the recent controversy and was a long time in the making.

As of now, no replacement has been selected for Swarbrick. However, more officiating staff will be added next season as part of the 'Elite Referee Development Plan'.
