PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe ruled out for the rest of the season

Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe will miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious injury against Marseille.

PSG announced on Monday that

Presnel Kimpembe

will undergo surgery after rupturing his right achilles tendon in Sunday's 3-0 Ligue 1 win against Marseille.

Kimpembe was stretchered off early in the first half and left the pitch in tears. The 27-year-old center-back missed the World Cup in Qatar due to a hamstring injury. He has only made 11 appearances for PSG in Ligue 1 this season.

“Presnel Kimpembe has ruptured his right Achilles tendon. He will undergo surgery to repair the tendon in the coming days.”

PSG said in a statement on Monday.

After the match, PSG manager Galtier also confirmed that Kimpembe will miss the rest of the season.

"Unfortunately, he’s seriously injured and he’ll be out for the remainder of the season. He has excruciating pain to his Achilles’ tendon. We believe it’s serious,"

Galtier said in a post-match press conference.

PSG

will face

Bayern Munich

in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie next week. They lost the first leg at home with one goal.

Galtier’s side is eight points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table after 25 matches and will host Nantes on Saturday.
