Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez urges fans to be patient with manager Graham Potter

The Argentina star Enzo Fernandez has revealed that he was nervous ahead of his record-breaking transfer to Chelsea.

After weeks of negotiations,

Enzo Fernandez

joined

Chelsea

from

Benfica

for a club and British transfer record of £106.8 million on deadline day in the January transfer window.

In an interview with the Times, Fernandez who has played in 4 matches for the Blues, talked about his feeling on transfer deadline day.

Fernandez said,

"It was a stressful time. The nerves were kicking in as the final hours approached. It was all about me trying to keep calm and focusing on my football. I was training and playing when I could but it did get a bit hectic towards the end as the hours ticked by.

"A lot of stuff was filtering out through various sections of the press that maybe wasn’t akin to what was really going on. I know for a fact that I didn’t miss any training sessions. I know all the negotiations were conducted between the clubs. I just got on with it, kept my head down and kept going to training.”

Chelsea is 10th in the Premier League table, 11 points off the top four, and has won just two of their past 15 matches in all competitions. They will face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday.

The 22-year-old midfielder also asked Chelsea fans to trust the players and be patient with manager Graham Potter.

“I would encourage the fans to be patient,”

he said.

"We have got a lot of new faces here and it is a restructuring of the club and the playing staff. Trust us.”

He added:

“Trust the players, trust the backroom staff, trust the manager. Never forget that we are representing you, that we are trying to win games, starting on Sunday. Then we can start to turn things around.”
