Official: Chelsea sign Malo Gusto from Lyon

Chelsea has completed the €40 million signing of Malo Gusto from Lyon.

Chelsea

has announced they have signed

Malo Gusto

from

Lyon

on a seven-and-half-year contract. Gusto will spend the remainder of the season on loan with Lyon. Chelsea reportedly has agreed to a fee of around €40m with the French club.

Gusto is a graduate of Lyon’s academy and made his senior debut in January 2021. He played in 30 Ligue 1 matches last season and provided four assists. The 19-year-old who plays as a right-back also has played in 15 Ligue 1 matches this season.

Lyon wanted to keep Gusto and even the president Jean-Michel Aulas took to social media and insisted Gusto would continue with Lyon beyond this transfer window, but Gusto pushed for this transfer. Manchester United and Tottenham were also interested in the France U21 international.

Chelsea had already spent more than £150m during this transfer window before this signing. Gusto becomes the Blues' seventh signing of the winter, following Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, and Noni Madueke.

Chelsea has signed 16 players for almost £500m since Todd Boehly's consortium brought the club last summer, and they still want to sign a midfielder, with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo being their top targets, but it is unlikely they manage to sign either of them in January.

Chelsea is in 10th place in the Premier League, 10 points from a top-four spot.
