Ancelotti insists Modric and Kroos understand Madrid's midfield revamp

Ancelotti has opted to hand young midfielders more game-time this season as Real Madrid veterans, Kroos and Modric found themselves on the bench more often this time. However, the Italian coach believes the duo understands Los Blancos' urge for a rotation in midfield.

While

Luka Modric

and

Toni Kroos

have made a tally of 17 and 21 starts this season, Eduardo Camavinga has made the most starts in the Real Madrid squad this season with 27 starts, followed by Federico Valverde's 24. Modric and Kroos were also late substitutes in Real Madrid's 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao last week.

However, ahead of Thursday's Copa del Rey clash with Atletico,

Carlo Ancelotti

believes the experienced duo understands the nature of the club's transition.

"

They are professionals and understand the quality of this team,

" he said of Modric and Kroos.

"I don't need to explain why they don't play.

"They understand it very well, we talked about it in pre-season. Now is a time of transition for this team.

"The veterans must have understanding and young players must have patience. That has been key to success in the squad. They are all motivated.

"They [Modric and Kroos] can still play together, I don't have a single doubt. They contribute a lot and will continue to contribute during this season. They are always decisive."

Asked about the possible changes in the midfield for tomorrow's game, the Italian added:

"It could be a part of the rotation that we have to take on for this game. Tomorrow we have to put together the best possible team, and that's what we'll try to do."

With

Vinicius

being the subject to racial abuse during last Madrid derby, Ancelotti wants greater physical and mental protection for the winger.

"

It is a subject that we are concentrating on,"

Ancelotti said.

"The player is in good physical condition, and mentally you have to protect him.

"It's very important. Football needs Vinicius, who has an extraordinary talent. You have to protect the physical and mental aspects. He is very motivated and eager to contribute."

On the rumors linking the Italian coach to

Brazil

’s dugout, Ancelotti said:

"So far, we haven't been in touch.

"If that contact ever takes place, I will let you know."
