Juventus hit with a 15-point deduction penalty following financial scandal

The Serie A giants once again find themselves in legal crosshairs as they face the consequences of artificially inflating players’ value for capital gains.

Following the massive exodus at the managing level of

Juventus

due to financial problems, the Italian giants have now been deducted 15 points because of financial malpractice. The Bianconeri have been convicted of inflating players’ values in the market for financial gains. This sees the Old Lady drop to the 10th place in Serie A as their 37 points are now reduced to 22!

The financial prosecutor in Serie A have found Juventus guilty of a series of financial violations which resulted in club saving €90 million in player salaries during the COVID-19 pandemic. The investigations and the final conviction followed the resignation of Juventus board back in November which raised quite a few eyebrows.

Apart from the point deduction, which has already been served, Juventus board members have also been hit with suspensions, including the likes of Agnelli, Nedved and Spurs current director Fabio Paratici who previously worked at Juventus. A host of other clubs (Sampdoria, Pro Vercelli, Genoa, Parma, Pisa, Empoli, Novara and Pescara) were also investigated but all have been acquitted.

A statement from the FIGC read:

"The Federal Court of Appeal presided over by Mario Luigi Torsello has partially accepted the appeal of the Federal Prosecutor's Office... sanctioning Juventus with 15 penalty points to be served in the current football season and with a series of inhibitions for 11 Juventus executives (30 months for Paratici, 24 months for Agnelli and [Maurizio] Arrivabene, 16 months for [Federico] Cherubini, eight months for Nedved, [Paolo] Garimberti, [Enrico] Vellano, [Assia] Venier, [Caitlin] Hughes, [Daniela] Marilungo and [Francesco] Roncaglio)."

Despite the point deduction, Juventus is still able to appeal against the decision.
