Jupp Heynckes opens up about stressful heart surgery

Former Bayern Munich and Real Madrid coach admits to having the “worst time” of his life in his recent open-heart surgery.

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid great, Jupp Heynckes, has recently undergone a serious heart surgery at Dusseldorf University Hospital. With two of his arteries being closed, the doctors placed several stents in an emergency surgery that saw the 77-year-old former manager in ICU for two weeks.

Kicker interviewed the two-time Champions League winning manager after his successful surgery as Heynckes said:

"That was the worst time of my life. I couldn't sleep, time doesn't pass, it was martyrdom."

Although Heynckes was aware of the problem, he admitted that he didn’t "

expect such a serious operation".

He then went on to express his sincere thanks

"to all the doctors and the entire staff who looked after me".

legend as a player, Heynckes won the 1974 World Cup with Germany before becoming a successful manager in Spain and Germany, winning the 1998 Champions League with Real Madrid as well as a treble with Bayern Munich in 2013 among many other trophies. He then retired in 2018 from management after helping
