El Shaarawy wants Mourinho to stay at Roma amid Portugal's interest
Portugal was eliminated from the World Cup in the quarter-finals as they dismissed their head coach, Fernando Santos. Since then, Jose Mourinho appeared as their main target for the post as El Shaarawy believes the Portuguese is committed to Roma.
It was reported earlier that Portugal's football federation held a meeting with
Jose Mourinho's agent, Jorge Mendes, to appoint him as Fernando Santos's replacement as the Portuguese side suffered a quarter-final exit from Qatar 2022.
However,
Stephan El Shaarawyexpects the Portuguese to stay at
Roma
. He told
Il Messaggero:
"We have never talked to him about this possibility [of Mourinho leaving]. We think the coach is very focused on Roma, on the goals we have, on doing well here as we all are, as always.
"He is always present in every situation. Even in the way he talks to us in the locker room, in the match, in giving us the right indications.
"We see him serene, he is a person of the heart, instinctive, so the important thing for him now, I think, is Roma. We all hope he can stay here for a long time."
