Manuel Neuer to miss rest of the season after breaking leg in skiing accident

Bayern Munich goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, will miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken leg while skiing.

Neuer

has announced that he has broken his leg while skiing during vacation after Germany was knocked out of the

World Cup

in Qatar at the group stage.

The 36-year-old Neuer was given extra time off by

Bayern Munich

after Germany's elimination. He will now miss the rest of the season with a broken leg.

"The end of the year could have definitely gone better,"

he wrote on Instagram.

"It hurts to know that the current season is over for me.

“While I was trying to get my head clear while ski touring, I suffered a lower leg fracture. Yesterday's surgery went well. Many thanks to the doctors! However, it hurts to know that the current season is over for me. Take care! Your Manuel.”

Neuer also announced in November that he has suffered from skin cancer and had surgery three times to counter it.

Germany was eliminated from the World Cup tournament after a win against Costa Rica, a draw against Spain and a loss to Japan.

Bayern is top of Bundesliga and will face Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 round of the Champions League.

Bayern defender Lucas Hernandez also ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee while playing for France at the World Cup and likely will miss the rest of the season.
