Modric believes Croatia has a chance against "always favorites" Brazil

Croatia beat Japan in the last 16 on the penalties and will face Brazil in the quarter-finals on Friday. Despite being the Russia 2018 runners-up, Modric believes Brazil is the favorite to win the World Cup.

The 2018 World Cup runners-up had a tough time in the round of 16 against Japan when they were held to a 1-1 draw. However, eventually, they beat the Asian side in the penalty shoot-out 3-1. Ahead of their quarter-finals tie against Brazil,

Luka Modric

urges his side to “be at their best” to win the World Cup favorites.

The

Croatia

midfielder said:

“We’ve done a great deal to reach the quarterfinals. We’ll play perhaps the biggest game of the Cup so far. They’re always favourites. For what they’ve done so far, they’re favourites. We have to play our best game and we’ll have a chance. We have our own strength. We have faith ourselves.

Comparing the Saturday game against

Brazil

to Russia 2018 final that Croatia lost 4-2 to France, Modric added:

“I believe that the game at the front will be the most difficult. I can’t compare it with the final. Brazil is a big challenge. We lost 4-2 to France. I wish there was a game like this [contra o Brasil] shortly after. But that’s life. Croatia is a small country, we can say that there are few teams that manage to reach this [quartas de final]”, analyzed Zlatko Dalic, who already managed Croatia in the 2018 World Cup. He said that Brazil is one of the main favorites of the Cup.

“We already played against Brazil, we never won, unfortunately. I hope we change the tradition tomorrow. Brazil has incredible players in the middle, in the attack, in the defense. We have to play with intensity, we have to maintain control, we have to be strong and intense ”, described the Croatian star.

Croatia manager,

Dalic

added Croatia must avoid the faults of the Serbians and don't panic. He added:

“It was a good game, Serbia played well. But they got into a trap when they got nervous. And they put themselves in situations that weren’t to their advantage. This game was unique. Serbia couldn’t keep up the pace and they fell in the second half. It’s something we shouldn’t do. We shouldn’t panic and get into conflict with ourselves. We have to wait for the best opportunities. That’s what Serbia was doing until it lost.”
