France 4–1 Australia: Teaching the way to start the World Cup

With Denmark and Tunisia opening up Group D of Qatar 2022, the reigning World Cup champions France faced Australia in their opening match of the tournament as an easy promotion was on the Frenchmen's cards.

Eying to become the only third team to win back-to-back World Cups,

France

started their game against Australia slowly as the Australians scored the opener in the 9th minute as Craig Goodwin finished a low cross to the far post. Goodwin's goal was the fastest goal at this World Cup so far, as it took him just eight minutes and 22 seconds.

Australians

were ready to make the second shock of the day after Saudi Arabia completed a comeback to achieve a historic 2-1 victory over Argentina. However, the Australians' hopes turned to dust as France scored two quick goals in five minutes. First out-of-favor Juventus midfielder with a header in the 27th minute before providing the assist for Olivier Giroud's 32nd-minute goal.

Kylian Mbappe

finally started his World Cup account in the 68th minute, just three minutes before Giroud scored his second goal to seal France a 4-1 victory over Australia.

With this victory, France sits at top of Group D alone with Tunisia and Denmark each following with one point, while Australia bottoms the table with 0 points.
