Totti: World Cup without Italy, like Rome without the Colosseum

Italian football legend Francesco Totti says Italy's absence will be felt at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup after their defeat against North Macedonia in the play-off stage. Italy has won the

World Cup

five times but they have failed to qualify for the last two World Cups.

"The World Cup without Italy is like going to Rome without seeing the Colosseum,"

Totti told Sky Sport,

"we're talking about a great national team.

"For us Italians it is a negative thing, but these are things that happen in football. It will always be a World Cup, we will watch it with interest."

Totti who was part of the squad that won the 2006 World Cup has revealed his favorites for the upcoming tournament.

"France,

Argentina,Brazil

, Spain, Germany. They are always the same, I don't see one over the other. Then they will play in winter, which is strange. There isn’t one in particular, at the World Cup Anything can happen. Playing in November and December, you also don’t know how the players arrive on a physical level.”

Roma legend also was asked about Serie A title race this season. Napoli is eight points clear at top of the table after 15 matches.

“The Italian championship is always beautiful, from start to finish he says again – This year Napoli are going beyond expectations and are doing great things. Were it to continue like this, the chances for the other teams to recover would be minimal. Milan, Inter Juventus and Juventus, however, never give up.

Until the end it will be a beautiful and combative championship. We need to see how the players will return after the World Cup. If Napoli maintain this continuity, however, I think it will be difficult to stop them."
