Hakimi praises ‘best in the world, Ramos after the Spain snub

Sergio Ramos was once again overlooked by Luis Enrique in his squad for a major tournament which has left Ramos’ teammate Hakimi baffled

Luis Enrique announced his squad for the 2022 World Cup today and Sergio Ramos was perhaps the biggest named absent from the list which has shocked his

PSG

teammate Hakimi as he has deemed Ramos the

"best defender in the world"

.

Sergio Ramos holds the record for most caps for Spain with 180 has won the 2010

World Cup

as well as the 2008 and 2012 Euros with La Roja. The former Real Madrid captain has had a strong start to his season after leaving the injury-riddled debut season he had last year behind.

The news will not come as a shock to most who follow Spain since Ramos was famously left out of Spain’s Euro 2020 squad as well with his last appearance for La Roja dating back to March of 2021 against Kosovo.

Ramos was not the only big name absent from Spain’s squad as David De Gea and Thiago Alcantra also didn’t make the cut. However, Enrique was unwilling to talk about the absentees:

"I have a rule not to talk about absences. This happens to all coaches.

"I will not judge those who are not on the list. I thank all those who played. The most important are the 26 who are there. The absentees, I prefer not to comment. I leave it to you."
