Henry: Barcelona would erupt like a volcano without Xavi

Former Barcelona star Thierry Henry has defended Xavi after Champions League elimination and claimed that things would be worse if Xavi was not on the bench.

For the second year in a row, Barcelona will play in the Europa League after a 3-0 defeat against Bayern Munich at Camp Nou on Wednesday. Bayern and Inter both have qualified for the next stage and Barcelona is in third place in Group C with 4 points after 5 matches.

Thierry Henry who played between 2007 to 2010 for Barcelona after the elimination of his former team in the group stage for the second year in a row defended Xavi Hernandez.

“Look at the end of the day result matters, we’ve seen it with Steven Gerrard. The problem at Barcelona is that you don’t have time. But yeah, let me tell you if it was another coach right now at Barcelona, dealing with what’s happening, it would have been a volcano even more than what it is... the volcano would have erupted. But because it’s Xavi, it’s kind of okay.”

said Henry as a pundit on CBS Sports Golazo.

Barcelona is in second place in La Liga and Henry believes they have been unlucky in the Champions League and their failure is not Xavi’s fault.

“They are second in the league. We all know Lewandowski should have scored at Bayern but it’s not his [Xavi] fault that Lewandowski missed three chances and it’s not his fault if they didn’t call the penalty on Dumfries, but you’re the coach at Barcelona and you’re going to be judged. Barça have gambled on the Champions League and they need that money because of what they did in the summer.”
