Lyon to sign former PSG boss Blanc after the dismissal of Bosz

The ex-PSG manager might come back to Ligue 1 as the manager of Lyon, who dismissed coach Peter Bosz on Sunday.

Peter Bosz

was dismissed by Ligue 1 side Lyon on Sunday and the club announced that his replacement is going to be former PSG boss

Laurent Blanc

. The Ligue 1 giants could no longer take it with the Dutchman, whose second year at the helm started on the right foot but has deteriorated very fast. In their first five matches in the league, they were able to grab 13 points. While many believed that they can at least compete for a Champions League place, Lyon found themselves in free-fall.

They ended their run of four consecutive defeats with a draw with Toulouse on Friday, but that one point from the draw could not save Bosz, who got sacked by the club on Sunday. This was the longest run of losses Lyon experienced since 1991, when they also suffered four defeats in a row. They ended the previous season sitting eighth and failed to reserve a place in all European competitions. They endured their lowest league finish since 1995, 96 season when they sat 11th on the table.

Blanc will be his successor and he has formerly coached Bordeaux, France, and Paris Saint-Germain. His reign will officially start on Monday. Blanc departed Ligue 1 champions PSG in 2016 after three years in charge and delivered the title each season. He most recently coached Qatari club Al-Rayyan, but he left his role in February after 14 months of reign. According to a statement from the club, Blanc is willing to sign a deal that will keep him until the end of the next season.
