Gonzalo Higuain to retire after 2022 MLS season

Former Real Madrid player Gonzalo Higuain will retire from professional football at the end of the 2022 MLS season.

announced on Monday that he has decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2022

MLS season.

The 34-year-old Higuain during his 17-year career played for some of the biggest clubs including Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan, and Chelsea.

Higuain began his career with River Plate and In 2006 He joined Real Madrid for a fee of $16 million. He scored 121 goals in 264 appearances in all competitions and won three LaLiga titles and one Copa del Rey. After seven years Higuain left Madrid and joined Napoli. He managed to score 91 goals in 146 appearances over three seasons.

Juventus broke transfer record in Serie A at the time and brought him from Napoli for around $100m in 2016. He scored 32 goals in his first season but his form dropped off in the following seasons and Juventus loan him out to AC Milan and Chelsea during the 2018-19 season.

Higuain finally joined

Inter Miami

in 2020 and has scored 27 goals in 65 league appearances. Inter Miami currently is in the playoff positions in the Eastern Conference with two games left to play.

Higuain scored 31 goals in 75 appearances for Argentina but failed to win any major trophy with them and was part of the team that lost the 2015 and 2016 Copa America finals as well as the 2014 World Cup final.
