Sampdoria axed Marco Giampaolo after Monza defeat

The Italian head coach scored only 2 points out of 24 possible points and finally the club decided to fire him.

Sampdoria have announced the end of their partnership with Marco Giampaolo following their 3-0 home defeat to Monza.

Giampaolo previously managed Sampdoria between 2016 and 2019, and now his second term in this club has ended. He scored only 2 points in the first 8 games of the season and this caused him to be fired from the bench. He replaced Roberto D'Aversa in January and recorded 5 wins, 3 draws and 16 defeats in 24 Serie A games.

Last night's home defeat confirmed his sacking and the former Milan and Torino boss said goodbye to the Luigi Ferraris stadium.

Club's statement reads:

"U.C. Sampdoria have announced that they have relieved coach Marco Giampaolo of his duties.

"The club would like to thank Marco and his staff for the dedication and professionalism they showed while working for Sampdoria."

Sampdoria face Bologna on Saturday and it remains to be seen who will be announced as Giampaolo's replacement.
