PSG owner Al-Khelaifi demands UEFA investigate Barcelona's finances
Following the verbal war between him and the Catalan club, Nasser Al-Khelaifi suggests Barcelona’s financial conduct will be investigated by UEFA.
Despite struggling to meet La Liga's salary limits and their debt levels,
Barcelonaspent hugely in the past summer transfer window to bring in moves for Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, and Raphinha to the club.
To raise funds for their transfer activity, Barcelona sold some of their future rights that
Nasser Al-Khelaifibelieves should be investigated by European football's governing body, including a 25 percent sale of their future LaLiga media rights and a hefty 49 percent of their share in their production company, Barca Studios.
"If they allow them, others will do the same. UEFA of course have their own [financial] regulations. For sure they're going to look at everything."
The
Paris Saint-Germain's owner is a UEFA executive committee member as well as the chairman of the European Club Association. Earlier in a speech, the PSG owner warned against unsustainable methods of running a football club, following
Barcelona's
use of multiple economic levers to fund their summer transfer window.
He said:
"The new financial sustainability rules are a positive development. But we need to be careful. Dangerous levels of debt and magical equity deals are not a sustainable path.
"There is no magic. Barcelona has sold part of its assets to cover its losses. At PSG, you instead 'open the gas'. For sustainable football, the first thing is to pay what is owed, RIGHT?"
