Rudiger reveals “unexpected dinner” with Real Madrid boss Ancelotti

Despite a slow start to the life in Chelsea upon his arrival from Roma,

established himself among the cornerstones of the Thomas Tuchel's side that won Champions League in 2021. The German defender joined

this summer as a free agent after his contract with Chelsea expired.

Appearing in all opening six La Liga games of his side, Rudiger has already established himself as a valuable player for the Los Blancos. He revealed an unexpected dinner he had with the Real Madrid boss 

Carlo Ancelotti

the day before his presentation.

The Germany international told

:

“I only finished realising everything after my move. Suddenly I was at home and I had a wonderful feeling. Then came the meeting with Ancelotti and my presentation a day later.

“I had only been with my family in my new house for a few hours when the doorbell rang. I opened the door and it was Carlo Ancelotti. A shocking moment.

“He sat down at the table to eat with us and meet my family. He stayed for two hours, we talked about everything.

“I had never experienced anything like that, no coach had ever done anything like that for me.”

Rudiger continued to hail his new manager:

“Don Carlo, a legend who was already collecting Champions League titles when I was a kid. Working with him on a daily basis at the most successful club in the world is wonderful.”

seemed keen to extend Rudiger's contract and retain the valuable defender, but the club's difficult economic situation gave

Real Madrid

the opportunity to sign the 29-year-old defender.
