Roma midfielder Wijnaldum suffers broken leg in training

Roma midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum broke his right leg in training.

has announced that

Georginio Wijnaldum

broke his right leg in training on Sunday and faces a spell on the sidelines.

He will probably require surgery but It remains to be seen how long he will be out. The Netherlands international could miss the World Cup which begins in November.

In a statement, Roma said:

"Following an injury sustained during training this afternoon, Georginio Wijnaldum subsequently underwent medical tests that confirmed the presence of a fracture to the tibia in his right leg.

"The player will undergo further assessments in the coming days.”

The 31-year-old Wijnaldum recently joined Roma from

Paris Saint Germain

on a season-long loan deal. Former Liverpool player joined PSG last summer on a free transfer and won the Ligue 1 title. He scored three goals in 38 appearances.

Wijnaldum made his Serie A debut in Roma's 1-0 victory over Salernitana last week. Roma will face Cremonese at home on Monday and after that, they will play with Juventus in Turin.

Roma also has signed Paulo Dybala, Nemanja Matic, Zeki Celik, and Mile Svilar this summer.
