Lorient-Lyon match in Ligue 1 postponed due to poor state of pitch

The Match between Lorient and Lyon in the Ligue 1 has been called off by the Ligue de Football Professionnel.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel has announced the match between

Lorient

and

Lyon

on Sunday has been postponed due to fears surrounding the state of the pitch at Stade du Moustoir.

"The LFP Competitions Committee decided on Friday to postpone the match between FC Lorient and Olympique Lyonnais to a later date,"

read an official statement.

"The commission noted that the current state of the pitch at Stade du Moustoir did not ensure the safety of the players. As a result, the LFP Competitions Committee decided to postpone the meeting.”

The issue had come about as a result of an ongoing serious heatwave and drought across Western Europe, as well as the city’s Celtic Festival which held several events inside the Stade du Moustoir.

Earlier, Lyon coach Peter Bosz in his press conference said:

"We are preparing for the match as if we were going to play on Sunday. It does not change anything in our preparation. I'm a little worried about the quality of the lawn.

I hope it will not be dangerous for the players. The most annoying thing is the injuries. For a team that wants to play, it's important to have a good pitch. You always have to adapt to the conditions.”

The 2022-2023 season of

Ligue 1

started last weekend and Lyon defeated Ajaccio while Lorient beat Rennes.
