Potter proud of ambitious Brighton after historical win at Man United

Brighton started the Premier League in fashion with a 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Red Devils struggled to cope with Brighton's fluidity as Pascal Gross scored twice. Losing Cucurella and Bissouma this summer, Brighton boss Potter is proud of his side’s performance.

Danny Welbeck inspired the opener with half an hour played, providing the assist for Gross to score the first goal of the match for

Brighton

. The German added another goal to his name nine minutes later,  beating Fred to a rebound and converting after David de Gea parried Solly March's shot. An error by Brighton's goalkeeper pulled one back for United, putting Mac Allister off as he tried to clear off the line. However, Brighton held on for a

first-ever win at Old Trafford

as United's late flurry failed to produce an equalizer.

Graham Potter

told reporters following the final whistle:

“Great performance, delighted with the boys and it’s a nice start for us.

“It’s not easy [losing Bissouma and Cucurella] but we’ve got a good, ambitious group. Guys want to their best. They’re not perfect but they give their best.

We’re enjoying what is a historic win for us. The way we did it was good, but it’s only three points,”

the Brighton boss concluded.

A good pre-season made

Man United

fans optimistic about their team's future as Eric ten Hag replaced Ralf Ragnick this summer to start a new era. However, the 2-1 defeat reminded them of the same issues they had before, making the ten Hag era begins in a chastening fashion
