Official: Isco joins Sevilla on a free transfer from Real Madrid

Spanish midfielder Isco left Real Madrid as a free agent at the end of June and has long been linked with a move to the Seville side to reunite with his former manager, Julen Lopetegui.

After weeks of negotiations,

Sevilla confirmed

they have signed the Spain international on a free transfer as

Isco

would undergo medical tests on Monday, signing a two-year deal with the Seville side.

The 30-year-old joined

Real Madrid

from Malaga in 2013, contributing 53 goals and 56 assists in a total of 353 appearances he made for the Los Blancos before falling down the pecking order when Carlo Ancelotti returned. Isco has won three La Liga titles and five Champions League trophies with the Los Blancos as well as making 38 appearances for Spain's national side.

Sevilla

earlier emerged as a perfect destination for Isco with former Spain and Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui a big fan of his undoubted ability. However, with plenty of seasoned campaigners such as

Papu Gomez

and Ivan Rakitic in the squad, the Andalusians face the question of whether another 30-year-old is the right addition to their squad as obvious financial issues are to be taken into account. However, with Isco lowering his wage demands to join the club, the move finally materialized.

Sevilla will start their 2022-23 season at

Osasuna

on Friday.
