Official: Paris Saint-Germain sign Renato Sanches from Lille

Renato Sanches has been reunited with Christophe Galtier at Paris Saint-Germain after a successful spell at Lille.

Renato Sanches

, a midfielder, has joined

Paris Saint-Germain

from Ligue 1, rivals Lille for a price that has not been made public. The midfielder is back with

Christophe Galtier

, the new coach of PSG, after signing a five-year deal with the French champions.

Milan

were rumored to be interested in Sanches, but PSG became the favorite to sign the 24-year-old. The international player from Portugal won the 2020-21 Ligue 1 title while playing for Lille under Galtier. He moved there from

Bayern Munich

in 2019. Sanches said on the PSG website: "I'm really glad to have made it to Paris. The last few days have been very important for my family and me.

"I'm sure that joining the club was the right thing to do. Paris Saint-Germain is the project I chose because I think it's the best one for me. I needed to stay in France because I already know this league."

The former

Benfica

player is excited to work with Galtier again, who took over for the fired Mauricio Pochettino last month. He also said: "I know him. He is a good coach who helped me get better after I started playing in Ligue 1. Together, we were able to help Lille win the league.

"We worked well together, and I'm glad to be able to work with him and his coaching staff again. When you work with a manager, things are always easier. It's easier for you to talk to each other."

Georginio Wijnaldum is expected to join Roma, and his former team, Everton, is interested in Idrissa Gueye. PSG will go to Clermont on Saturday to start defending their Ligue 1 title.
