Sweden's Asllani calls VAR a ‘catastrophe’ due to number of cameras

Kosovare Asllani has criticized the use of VAR after a controversial goal call against Sweden's Rebecka Blomqvist in the group stage.

Kosovare Asllani

of

Sweden

has said that the use of VAR at the

Women's Euros

is "strange." She said this before her team's semi-final match against England at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening.

Rebecka Blomqvist

's team won 2-1 against Switzerland in the group stage, but one of Blomqvist's goals was taken away. This made people angry. After the incident, the Swedish football association talked to UEFA about it, and Asllani has said he doesn't like how many VAR cameras are used in the competition.

The 32-year-old man said to the press: "Well, our tournament has 50% fewer cameras than the men's game, which is a disaster because the decisions can't be made as accurately. "It's not just for us; other teams need it, too. There are times when you need more cameras, and it can make a big difference.

"I think it's strange because I like VAR and think it's fair when they use it, but if they make a mistake in one game because they draw the line on the wrong side and we hear they don't have the same number of cameras, that's not okay with me."

Manager Peter Gerhardsson also had something to say about the matter "It shouldn't matter if it's men's football or women's football. It's not good enough that goals are taken away in this way when the VAR is wrong. I think that we sometimes put too much faith in VAR. We will have to hope that they have thought about how to get better before tomorrow's semi-final."

Even though Asllani hasn't been in training for a few days, it's thought that he will be able to play in Milan's big match against hosts

England

on Sunday. Both teams are trying to get to the final, which will be played at Wembley.
