Werner should be one of the happiest people - Tuchel

The Chelsea manager is having a hard time understanding why the German player wants to depart the club.

Speculations regarding

Timo Werner

’s desire to leave

Chelsea

has stunned

Thomas Tuchel

as he thinks the Germany international should be “one of the happiest people on the planet”.

His contract will keep him at the club until 2025 and he has already enjoyed Champions League glory during his time at Chelsea.

After there were many questions regarding his form and competition for places, the 26-year-old admitted he “could be happy everywhere” when asked about the future.

After hearing Werner’s comments, the Chelsea boss talked to the reporters after his side suffered a penalty shootout loss at the hands of MLS side Charlotte FC: “I'm surprised, I would be very happy as a young guy having a contract at Chelsea football club. I would be one of the happiest people on the planet.

“He needs to get his game time. He has to show quality, take your place and defend your place.

“I would be one of the happiest people on the planet having a contract with Chelsea. If he said this, I do not understand.”

Werner, who met the back of the net in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Club America, did not play any part against Charlotte because of a hamstring injury, but the club manager insisted that he is still included in his plans, saying:

“Sure, he is our player, sure.”

Following their first friendly game of this summer, Werner said when quizzed if he has to have clear-the-air talks with Chelsea bosses:

“It is hard to say.

“First of all, the most important thing is that I am happy. I am happy when I play and score goals. That's the fact. That's what I should take care of and the other things will come.”

Asked on if he can find that happiness at the Blues, he added:

“I could be happy everywhere.”
