Branthwaite makes a loan move to PSV from Everton

Everton sent Jarrad Branthwaite on loan to Ruud van Nistelrooy's PSV for the season so that he could play in Europe.

Everton

sent defender

Jarrad Branthwaite

on loan to PSV for the 2022–23 season, where he will work with

Ruud van Nistelrooy

. At age 17, Branthwaite moved from Carlisle United to Everton's Goodison Park. In July 2020, he made his Premier League debut against Wolves.

The center-back scored his first Premier League goal the next season in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge against

Chelsea

. It was an unlikely hero moment. Branthwaite spent the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship. He then came back and made eight appearances, including four Premier League starts, in the most recent season.

Last season,

Frank Lampard

's team avoided relegation from the Premier League. This transfer window, they got James Tarkowski from Burnley, which makes it even less likely that Branthwaite will play for the first team at Goodison Park.

After being loaned to PSV, the 20-year-old will probably play in his first Champions League game. PSV qualified for the qualifying rounds of Europe's best club competition by finishing second in Eredivisie.

"Olivier Boscagli can't play at least until the winter break, so we wanted to add a good left-footed central defender on loan," PSV director of football affairs John de Jong said. "Jarrad fits all of those requirements."

"He is a tall and strong player. He has good qualities and is good at talking to one person at a time. Marcel Brands, who is in charge of football at PSV, knows Jarrad well from their time together at Everton, is a plus. So we knew it was possible to let him play for another team for a season."

On August 6, Van Nistelrooy's PSV start their season at home against newly promoted Emmen.
