Napoli fans protest over Koulibaly's transfer to Chelsea

Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly is on the verge of joining Chelsea.

Chelsea

and

Napoli

have reached an agreement over the transfer of

Kalidou Koulibaly

for €40m and the defender will undergo the first part of his medical on Thursday. He is set to become Chelsea’s second summer signing after Raheem Sterling who on Wednesday officially joined the blues.

Napoli fans are not happy about Koulibaly leaving who was set to inherit the captain’s armband following the departure of Lorenzo Insigne this summer. Angry fans were protesting in front of Napoli’s training camp on Wednesday and they are targeting sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli and President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

According to the Italian media, fans shouted out some of the club’s director's previous comments in which they had assured Koulibaly was not for sale, and in response, Giuntoli shrugged and replied: “It’s not up to us.”

The Senegal international had been on €6m per season and reportedly will earn €10m per season at Chelsea.

The 31-year-old joined Napoli from Geek in 2014 and since then has played in 317 matches for them. He won the Coppa Italia title in 2020 and Supercoppa Italiana in 2014 with Napoli and has been included in the Serie A team of the season four times.
