Bruno Fernandes revealed why he chose number 8 shirt

Since his arrival at Old Trafford, Fernandes has been the best player in his team.

Manchester United

star

Bruno Fernandes

announced that the reason for changing his shirt number to eight was to pay tribute to his father.

Since his time at Manchester United, Fernandes has worn the number 18 and

Juan Mata

has owned his beloved shirt. The Portuguese star previously wore the same shirt in Udinese and Sporting CP clubs. But the departure of Juan Mata gave Fernandes the opportunity to wear the number eight at Old Trafford, and now he revealed the reason for his interest in the number.

He said:

“That shirt means a lot [to me]. There is a history behind that [number] because my father, when he used to be a player, he was playing with a number eight.

“He quit from football because he had an offer from work, and obviously at that time for me and my brothers and for all the family it was better that he had proper work than [to] keep playing football.

“[The number eight] is the number he was using for two years. Because it was also his dream [to be a footballer], it makes my dream a little bit of him.”
