Breaking: João Moutinho Signs New Contract with the Wolves

Joining Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018, the Portuguese has since been among the Wolves’ key players making 176 appearances and now decided to continue his career with the Wolves until 2023.

Renowned journalist

Fabrizio Romano

confirmed the news in a tweet, writing: “

Official. João Moutinho has signed a new deal with Wolves until 2023, it’s done and sealed.

“He received approaches from many clubs but then decided to stay as Bruno Lage considers João key player for his project,

” Romano further explained.

Making a total of 176 appearances for the

Wolves

, Moutinho has scored 5 goals and contributed 23 assists. He was also selected as Player of the Season by the fans on May 14, 2019.

Moutinho

started his professional career with Sporting CP, moving in 2010 to FC Porto where he won twelve major titles between the two clubs combined. After a spell in France with Monaco, Moutinho signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018. And although Moutinho's contract at Wolves expired on 1 July 2022, Moutinho re-signed for Wolves on a one-year contract.

Moutinho has primarily played as a deep-lying center midfielder, though he can also play on either side and behind the striker. He's noted for his exceptional passing range and goal-scoring abilities. He's also proven to be a capable set-piece taker throughout the years, but he'll have to persuade opponents to let him take long-range free-kicks. He can also track back and defend, which is vital in a two-central-midfielder system like the one Nuno is likely to use.
