Manchester United stepped closer to Arsenal target Lisandro Martinez

The Red Devils and Arsenal are the most serious clients of the 24-year-old Argentine defender, who signed for Ajax in 2019 by Ten Hag. Arsenal has been trying to sign Martinez for a long time and has made several offers, the latest of which was for € 40 million.

As it’s been reported earlier, Ajax is awaiting a € 50 million offer and United have yet to make a move. The Dutch champions are hoping that their demands will be met by the

, Manchester United has stepped up their pursuit of

Lisandro Martinez

while Arsenal attempted earlier to fast-track a deal for the Ajax centre back.

After Frenkie de Jong and Tyrell Malacia, Ten Haag intends to strengthen Manchester United's defense, a line that has been extremely vulnerable in recent seasons. Man Utd has held positive talks over the Argentina international, who Erik ten Hag wants to reunite in the Premier League.

Manchester United has reached an agreement with Feyenoord over signing Tyrell Malacia for around 17 million euros as the left-back will reportedly become Ten Haag’s first Manchester United signing. The Red Devils are also closing on a deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong after weeks of protracted negotiations.

Last month Ajax rejected two offers from

Arsenal

for Martinez while Mikel Arteta believed he was leading the race for the 24-year-old. Their most recent offer was around £35m plus add-ons while Man Utd had asked Ajax to be kept informed of developments.

The left-footed center-back has a contract with Ajax until the summer of 2025. He played in 7 games for Argentina and won the Copa America in 2021. Martínez is primarily a center-back but is capable of playing as a central midfielder and left-back.
