Nico Schlotterbeck to join Borussia Dortmund from Freiburg
This season, Nico Schlotterbeck has been a starter for Freiburg in the Bundesliga, but he will join Borussia Dortmund next season.

Freiburg
to sign Germany's international center-back
Nico Schlotterbeck.
The 22-year-old has made 53 appearances for Freiburg in all competitions, including 35 this season, and has signed a contract extension with the club until the conclusion of the 2021-22 season. Schlotterbeck, who spent last season on loan with Union Berlin, has signed a long-term contract with Dortmund that will keep him at the club until July 2027.
He is BVB's second new defensive signing before the transfer window's formal opening, with rival
Bayern Munich's
Niklas Sule
also expected to join. Dortmund announced Schlotterbeck's impending arrival on their official website on Monday. Schlotterbeck has twice represented Germany at the senior level.
"I have today chosen to announce my move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022 after consulting with all parties concerned," Schlotterbeck said. "In doing so, I hope to clarify things for SC Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund, and myself.
"It's critical for me to be able to focus entirely on the last three games of the season-ending series with SC Freiburg, which we want to win. I'm looking forward to my new responsibilities with Borussia Dortmund after that." Freiburg is in the Bundesliga's final

slot with two games remaining, and they will also meet RB Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal final on May 21.
