Luciano Spalletti: Media trying to obscure Napoli success

Napoli thrashed Sassuolo with a sparkling attacking effort, but Luciano Spalletti took aim at the media following the game.

After

Napoli

's 6-1 demolition of

Sassuolo

on Saturday,

Luciano Spalletti

slammed the media hype surrounding his team. Last week, Napoli's Scudetto ambitions were dashed when a second-half collapse allowed Empoli to win, but Spalletti's side stormed out of the blocks against Sassuolo, scoring three goals through Kalidou Koulibaly,

Victor Osimhen

, and Hirving Lozano.

For the first time since May 2009, Napoli scored three goals in the first 20 minutes of a Serie A encounter, before Dries Mertens added a double on either side of the halftime break. After Maxime Lopez's late consolation goal,

Amir Rrahmani

turned home to give the hosts a 6-1 victory.

Spalletti, on the other hand, was not in the mood to rejoice after Napoli clinched Champions League status with a 12-point lead over Roma, who still have four games to play. After the humiliating defeat to

Empoli

, the Napoli coach questioned the media's reporting on his future.

"It was not an easy aim to be practically mathematically certain of Champions League football with three rounds to spare. "Having said that," he told reporters, "there are some regrets. I was the one who talked about the Scudetto to raise the standard, but winning a game in today's circumstances, with part of the fans booing, disappoints me after everything the players have accomplished this season."

"It almost feels like being where Roma, Atalanta, or Lazio are is a success, while Napoli is seen as a failure. Does anyone have any doubts about me?" A journalist who is short on ideas chooses to fill the void by revisiting old difficulties, such as those involving Francesco Totti, Mauro Icardi, and who knows what else.

"I've noticed some dishonest reporting in the area of myself and Napoli. By making it all about the Scudetto, you're attempting to disguise the excellent result of Champions League qualification. It's true that we lost points to Empoli, but it's also true that we've accomplished a lot with Napoli this season." The team didn't deserve to play in such a hostile environment."

Spalletti wants to keep building at Napoli, even if he loses some of his key players following this season's success. "This season taught us a lot; we now have more content and have built a showcase for a lot of guys," he added.

"At the start of the season, the president mentioned that the pay would have to be reduced; there were few proposals; now, many people are interested in the transfer market, and I'm glad about it." These players here deserve to be showcased and to be on the radar of other major clubs like Napoli."
