Canada qualifies for World Cup for first time in 36 years

The Canadian men's national football team qualified for the Qatar World Cup on Sunday.

for the first time since 1986 after 4-0 win over Jamaica on Sunday. Canada coach John Herdman became the first coach ever to lead both a men's and women's team to a World Cup.

Canada sit top of the table on 28 points, followed by the United States, which held the edge over third-place Mexico on goal difference.

The top three finishers in the CONCACAF region book the trip to Qatar. The fourth-place team goes to an playoff against a team from Oceania.
