Rodriguez was close to joining Atletico from Real Madrid
James Rodriguez has admitted that he was on the verge of making a move to Atletico Madrid a few years back but the contract failed when his former employers Real Madrid did not permit him to depart and join their rivals.
“
It was almost done,”
James Rodriguez said in comments carried by Fabrizio Romano.
“I wanted my family next to me, the deal was set to be completed. One step away. But then everything collapsed because Real Madrid didn’t want me to leave.”
The Colombian departed

Carlo Ancelotti
, pulling off impressive performances but also missing a lot due to injuries.
When Ancelotti went back to the Santiago Bernabeu, he departed the club as he and Rafael Benitez did not see eye to eye. He is currently in Qatar with

James has 82 caps for the Colombia national team and met the back of the net 23 times. He is hoping to be part of the team for the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 if Colombia make it to the competition. He scored 37 goals for Madrid and provided 42 assists in 125 matches.
