Klopp: No Firmino & Jota against Leeds, maybe for Chelsea match

Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino's injuries may keep them sidelined for the EFL Cup final, according to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that injured attackers Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino will miss the Premier League match against Leeds United and that both are in a race against the clock to play in the

EFL Cup

final against Chelsea on Sunday.

Jota, who has 12 league goals this season, is second only to Salah among Liverpool players, picked up an injury in last week's

Champions League

triumph over Inter, while Firmino complained of pain after the same match.

Both strikers were absent from Liverpool's 3-1

Premier League

victory over Norwich, with Salah, Sadio Mane, and Luis Diaz all scoring.

Klopp was not optimistic about the pair's chances ahead of a week in which Liverpool can cut the deficit on Manchester City in the Premier League to just three points before attempting to win their first domestic cup since 2012.

"For tomorrow [Wednesday, against Leeds], no chance, and then [for] the final we will see", Klopp said. "It would be easy to say 'no' now, but we will see.

"They are [pushing], but they were not on the training pitch [yet] so that's not a good sign.

"We have to see what we can do with the boys in the next few days, and then make a decision later in the week."

Liverpool, who have only struggled to convert in one of their last 23 encounters with Leeds in all tournaments, scoring in each of their last 16 since a goalless stalemate in April 1999. They will close the gap on the Cityzens to three points if they win at Anfield, but Klopp was quick to point out Leeds' strengths ahead of the game.

"We saw all the faces of Leeds United on Sunday [in their 4-2 defeat to Manchester United]," he added.

"They are very brave and very exciting. Offensively, they go with everything they have. Defensively, you can cause them problems, but that is difficult as well, because of their man-marking all over the pitch.

"If you are not really up for the game, they will eat you."
