Paris mayor: We love Mbappe as a role model, let him stay & help us

The future of France's sensation is still up in the air, with Real Madrid interested in bringing him to the Spanish capital.

The mayor of Paris is the latest politician to try to encourage Kylian Mbappe to extend his contract at PSG beyond this season's finish.

Anne Hidalgo is keen for the young superstar to renew his current contract, which is set to end this summer.

With some of Europe's top clubs hovering for what would be a sensational free transfer, the 23-year-old has revealed no clue of his future intentions.

When questioned about Mbappe,

Hidalgo

, who is a nominee for the next presidential election, told the TV program

Tele Loisirs

"Oh yes! Let him stay, let him help us!

“Above all, I think that beyond football and results he is so important, so useful to give hope to our young people. [That] is why I want him to stay.

"I don't have a bribe. But I just wanted to say that we love him so much.

"Just love, affection, and telling him that he is, in our country, in this city, such an example for many young people. He is aware of it."

Hidalgo isn't the only politician that wants Mbappe to stay put.

According to

El Mundo

, the current French president,

Emmanuel Macron

, is also encouraging the forward to negotiate a new agreement.

Macron is a fan of PSG's arch-rivals Marseille, but rumors indicate he is hoping that one of his predecessors,

Nicolas Sarkozy

, a die-hard PSG supporter, might aid prolong Mbappe's stay in Paris.

When it comes to his future destination, Mbappe has always kept his cards a secret, revealing in an interview last week that he "had not yet decided" on his future.

The forward was commenting after scoring a last-minute miraculous goal against Real Madrid in the

Champions League

, a club that has made no secret of their eagerness to sign him.

Los Blancos had a €220 million (£189 million/$260 million) deal rejected in the summer of 2021, but have been permitted to begin pre-contract negotiations since January.

PSG would hate to lose such an important player, who has 154 goals in 203 games since signing from Monaco four years ago and are said to be willing to offer him a contract valued at more than £500,000 per week.
