Arteta moans over Arsenal's goalless run after 0-0 draw vs Burnley

The Gunners have gone four games without scoring and are on a five-game winless streak in all tournaments.

Mikel Arteta

, Arsenal's manager, believes the club has to start striking again after a rare spell of poor form in front of the target.

On Sunday, the North London club was held to a goalless stalemate by Sean Dyche's Burnley at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal had the better of the attacking play throughout this

Premier League

fixture but could not score the game-winning goal, much to the manager's chagrin.

Against Burnley, the Gunners had 20 shots on goal. According to Opta, this is the most prolonged period in which Arsenal has gone without netting a goal in the Premier League at home in the previous six seasons.

For the first time since December 2005, Arteta's team has gone four games without scoring.

So far in January, they've only scored once, in a 2-1 loss to Manchester City on New Year's Day.

Arteta was dissatisfied with his team's start against

Burnley

but believes they tried all possible to snap out of the deadlock.

He told

Match of the Day

:

"We started slow, we looked leggy and didn't have enough rhythm or intention to attack the way we wanted. We started to play better, more rhythm and threat and came out in the second half completely different.

"We tried in every different way but lacked the quality in the final third. At the end, when we have a really low block, you need spark and creativity to win football matches and today we didn't do that.

"It is what they do, they want to play a slow game, it takes long, it is their game and you have to respect that.

"We need to start scoring goals and get back the players, the last four weeks it has been extremely difficult to put training sessions and squads together because of the amount of Covid-19 and injuries."
