Erik Lamela wins Puskas Award
Lamela’s Rabona goal brings the Argentine forward the Puskas Award.
, who scored a beautiful Rabona in his side’s Premier League clash against
Arsenal, has won the 2021 Puskas Award for it to remember that audacious goal for the rest of his life, although that goal didn’t help
Tottenhamrun away from the defeat in the north London derby back in March.
The other nominees for this award alongside the Argentine international were
Mehdi Taremi
for his overhead kick for Porto against Chelsea and the Czech Republic’s
Patrik Schick
, who scored a goal from the halfway line against Scotland at Euro 2020.
Despite the other goals’ quality, Lamela’s Rabona kick that went into the goal from between a defender’s legs, and gave Spurs the lead before they go through a 2-1 defeat against the Gunners, was selected as the best goal of the year 2021.
Lamela, who has left Tottenham in the summer and joined
Sevilla, had scored a similar goal in 2014, finding the net against Asteras Tripoli with a Rabona kick from outside the box in the Europa League, which shows that luck couldn’t have a considerable role in his goal against Arsenal.
