Middlesbrough eye Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun

Middlesbrough is one of the Sky Bet Championship teams interested in loaning out Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun.

Since August, Balogun has not played in the

Premier League

, but he is still an essential part of Arsenal's long-term ambitions, having signed a new deal in April that keeps him at the club until 2025.

Middlesbrough manager

Chris Wilder

attempted to recruit the 20-year-old New-York born, while he was at the helm of Sheffield United in 2020.

Balogun is also attracting attention in Europe, with French

Ligue 1

club Saint-Etienne keeping an eye on his status.

Per Mertesacker, Arsenal's academy coach, indicated last month that Balogun, who has played a total of 10 senior-team outings in all tournaments, will be loaned away in January.

In the meantime, forward

Eddie Nketiah's

condition at the Emirates Stadium remains unchanged.

Nketiah, who bagged a hat-trick against Sunderland in the Carabao Cup last month, rejected Arsenal's most recent contract extension and is now free to discuss a pre-contract with a foreign club.

Arsenal's final chance to get the 22-year-old is in January; however, they will be compensated even if he goes on a free transfer.

A permanent trade in January is not ruled out; nonetheless, Nketiah's talents may be necessary since out-of-favour former skipper

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

has already gone for Gabon's Africa Cup of Nations duties.
