Dani Alves still not permitted to play LaLiga games until January 8
Dani Alves, the club's winter recruit, will not be available for Barcelona's opening match of 2022.
After consenting to terminate his contract with
Sao Paolo
, Alves rejoined Barcelona as a free agent earlier this winter.
The 38-year-old won it all at Barcelona the first time through, representing the Blaugrana shirt for eight years from 2008 to 2016.
He's now back at Camp Nou, where he'll work with old colleague
Xavi Hernandez
to conclude his profession.
However, he has been incapable of playing against
La Ligateams who cannot update their list of approved players between the end of the summer season and the beginning of the winter window.
However, there is a hitch: Alves would be unable to play for the Catalans in their first game of 2022, which will be against Mallorca on January 2.
Because the formal period for squads to reopen is January 3, Alves and any additional acquisitions made before the Mallorca match – which seems doubtful – will be ineligible until the Granada match on January 8.
They will, however, be allowed to play three days early in the
Copa del Reyfacing Linares Deportivo.
