Napoli 3-2 Leicester – Foxes crash out of Europa League

Napoli secured a spot in the Europa League play-offs after they earned a 3-2 victory over Leicester City on Thursday.

The Foxes were in pole position to qualify from Group C as runners-up after

Spartak Moscow

but will now drop into the Europa Conference League knockout playoffs in February.

Napoli

took an early two-goal lead thanks to goals from

Adam Ounas

and

Eljif Elmas

, but

Jonny Evans

and

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

were both on target to level the score before halftime. Elmas scored his second just after the break and City were unable to find the back of the net for the third time.

Spartak claimed an automatic last-16 ticket after beating

Legia Warsaw

1-0, while Napoli will play a playoff against one of the Champions League's third-placed clubs after the winter break, with the winner advancing to Europa League knockout stages.

Napoli have now won seven of their 11 home games against English sides in Europe, but

Spalletti

may also have reason to complain, given his side will now have to compete in the Europa League play-offs in February.
